So I was listening to the radio this morning and the song "Kiss You Inside Out" by Hedley came on.
After listening to it the whole way through, something I don't normally do with a Hedley song, I came to the conclusion that it is a stalker/rape song.
Let me explain, below are the lyrics and a small break down, verse by verse, of why I think this song is about rape.
I don't know if you're ready to go
Where I'm willing to take you girl
I will feel every inch of your skin
And you know I can rock your world
(The story begins with our hero stalking his prey at a bar and
is getting ready to take her back home to his basement)
Imma be the calm in the storm you're looking for
I'll be the shipwreck that takes you down
I don't mind if you lie in my bed
We can stay here forever now.
(Here we can see he is clearly delusional, suffering from a state known as Paraphilia)
Ouuu oohhh
Turn off the lights
Take off your clothes
Turn on the stereo
Ouuu oohhh
(Our hero seems to become more and more aroused at the
thoughts of his victim's impending situation)
Give up the fight
I'm in control
Why don't you let it go.
Yeah, I wanna know you inside out
(This one is pretty self explanatory. Our hero has struck and is
trying to get his victim back into his van)
I'll spend my life trying to figure out
Just close your eyes and shut your mouth
And let me kiss you inside out.
I don't care if you steal all my air
(Again we see that our hero is under some kind of delusion that this woman is his soul mate)
We can breath in together as one
It's all right if you're here every night
Waking up with you in the sun
We start with an hour and we find we waste the day
(The victim has no sign of escaping, she seems to be tied up in his basement. Her only glimmer of hope is seeing the sun filter in through the grimy basement window)
Kicking back with the love we found.
I don't mind if you lie in my bed
We can stay here forever now
(Our hero clearly sees nothing wrong with what he has done and shows no signs of remorse. What he means to say is "You can stay here forever now")
Ouuu oohhh
Turn off the lights
Take off your clothes
Turn on the stereo
Ouuu oohhh
Give up the fight
I'm in control
Why don't you let it go
Yeah, I wanna know you inside out
I'll spend my life trying to figure out
Just close your eyes and shut your mouth
And let me kiss you inside out.
(This verse invokes visions of the poor girl, tied to the bed, trying to fight off her attacker...)
Let me love you, let me love you
Let me love you babe.
Let me love you, let me love you
Let me love you babe.
Let me love you, let me love you
Let me love you babe.
Let me love you, let me love you
Let me love you babe.
(Who then begins to plead that she must love him and let him in)
I don't mind if you lie in my bed
We can stay here forever now.
Ouuu oohhh
Turn off the lights
Take off your clothes
Turn on the stereo
Ouuu oohhh
Give up the fight
I'm in control
Why don't you let it go
Just let it go.
Yeah, I wanna know you inside out
I'll spend my life trying to figure out
Just close your eyes and shut your mouth
And let me kiss you inside out.
I wanna know you inside out.
I'll spend my life trying to figure out
Just close your eyes and shut your mouth
And let me kiss you inside out.
